The Common Cause of Male Infertility, Varicocele, Can Be Treated.
MTV IR offers effective treatments for scrotal varicocele, a common cause of male infertility.
A varicocele refers to abnormal vein enlargement in the scrotum. Varicocele is basically the same as varicose veins, which occur when the valves inside the veins stop working properly and, as a result, blood flows the wrong way down the body instead of back to the heart. Varicoceles only develop in the scrotum, and they occur in about 15% of adult men and 20% of teenage boys.
How is male infertility diagnosed?
Varicoceles cause reduced sperm production and poor quality sperm, with the result that infertility can develop. MTVIR will examine you to see if a varicocele can be seen or felt. In addition Doppler ultrasound technology is often used to detect unseen varicoceles that are deeper in the testicle. Once you have a diagnosis, you and your doctor will choose a treatment modality.
