A natural problem that men experience as they age is prostate enlargement. A condition also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia
An enlarged prostate can cause symptoms such as urinary incontinence, increased urinary frequency, or pain when urinating. This sends many men searching for a remedy. While multiple treatment options for enlarged prostates exist, prostatic artery embolization (PAE) is a minimally invasive procedure offering easy prostate recovery and significant improvements to those unpleasant symptoms.
For those in the Dallas or Fort Worth area, MTV IR is the clear choice for receiving your PAE procedure.
Coming to MTV IR for your PAE procedure offers many benefits beyond our practice being one of very few that offer this treatment, This is because MTV IR is also one of the only practices that can perform the procedure in the office, non-hospital setting.
Ease of Scheduling
Most medical offices do not have the capability to perform the PAE procedure in-office. Instead, they use hospital facilities. The problem with this arises in attempting to schedule the procedure. Other medical offices may use the same hospital to perform procedures, which may result in limited time slot availability.
In comparison, MTV IR performs all PAE procedures in a non-hospital setting, allowing for greater ease of scheduling and you to experience relief from your symptoms faster.
Less Wait Time
Patients wait significantly less for their procedure when receiving it at an in-house medical office setting. Our volume is not as condensed, ensuring that each patient can be seen when they are scheduled. MTV IR honors your time, which is why it is our goal to be as efficient as possible to get you “in and out” quicker, without sacrificing exceptional care.
No Hospital Drama
MTV IR’s clinic is a welcome location for surgery as it has much fewer patients waiting for a procedure at the same time and no other emergencies that increase activity. This creates a more calming environment for patients before and after their procedure.
PAE & MTV IR: A solution for Enlarged Prostates
For those looking to address the cause of their prostate enlargement through PAE, MTVIR is a clinic proud to offer this effective minimally invasive procedure in-house. By having the facilities needed to perform the procedure at MTVIR, patients do not need to visit the hospital, creating greater ease of scheduling while reducing wait times and surrounding drama.
If you are ready to take action against your enlarged prostate at one of the only clinics offering PAE procedures in-house in the Dallas and Fort Worth area, reach out to MTVIR to schedule a consultation.

Uterine fibroids are growths in the uterus that as many as 3 out of 4 women experience during their childbearing years.
These fibroids are non-cancerous, but sometimes can produce adverse symptoms such as heavy menstrual bleeding, overly long menstrual periods, pelvic pressure and pain, backaches, and difficulty with constipation or frequent urination.
By age 50, it is estimated that 70% of women will have one or more uterine fibroids, with around 30% of patients symptomatic and requesting treatment. Women of all races are affected, but fibroids are more common, and develop at an earlier age, in women of African origin. By age 35 years, 60% of African-American women will have fibroids, compared to 40% in Caucasian women of the same age. Other risk factors include age (increasing incidence with age up to the menopause, then usually decreasing in size), nulliparity, genetic factors, early menarche, caffeine, alcohol, obesity and hypertension.
If you suffer from painful uterine fibroids, you should know about your treatment options. In the past, problematic uterine fibroids would require an invasive surgery like a hysterectomy or myomectomy. Now you can avoid the risk of surgery, avoid the lengthy recovery, and keep your uterus in tact for any future pregnancies with MTV IR’s uterine fibroid embolization.
So if you suffer from painful uterine fibroids, contact MTVIR, the leaders in interventional radiology for women in Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. To learn more about MTV IR’s Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) procedure follow this link uterine fibroid embolization
What Should You be Asking When Seeking Liver Cancer Treatments? You know that you are looking for an experienced oncologist, and one with a good reputation, but did you know that it’s more important to look at the full team of doctors who will be helping you?
Modern cancer treatment is very much a team activity, with oncologists, oncological surgeons, radiation oncologists, pain management specialists and interventional radiologists all working together to give you the best possible care.
As Dallas’ interventional oncology specialists, MTV IR focuses on high-end, minimally-invasive procedures used to treat different types of cancer. These procedures include radiofrequency ablation, chemoembolization or radioembolization of tumors, portal vein embolization, and treatment of bony metastases. Many of these tumors occur in the liver, and these procedures allow MTV IR to provide the most advanced liver cancer treatment in North Texas.
In addition, because the management of pain is a big part of oncology treatment, MTV IR also serves as a top pain management center in Dallas/Fort Worth, specializing in epidural steroid injections and facet injections, selective nerve root blocks, kyphoplasty, and rhizotomy. The center also devotes a part of its practice to the treatment of problematic women’s health issues, such as uterine fibroids, infertility, and treatment of pelvic pain secondary to pelvic congestion syndrome.

Interventional Oncology
Fibroid tumors, sometimes referred to as myomas, are benign tumors that develop in the walls of the uterus. While it is very rare for these tumors to turn cancerous, they can cause extremely unpleasant symptoms, such as heavy menstrual bleeding, painful cramping, chronic pain in the pelvic region, and pressure on the bladder or bowels.
In the past, these symptoms (and the fibroid growths that caused them) were often treated with hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus). Although common, hysterectomy is a radical procedure in that it renders the patient unable to have children, incurs the risks normally associated with invasive surgery and full general anesthesia, and often results in other adverse long-term effects.
Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures offer a better treatment approach
The minimally-invasive procedure used by some of the best interventional radiology doctors in Dallas at MTV IR allows them to shrink or destroy uterine fibroid tumors without the need for invasive surgery. With this procedure (called Uterine Fibroid Embolization or UFE), a thin, flexible tube called a catheter is introduced into the femoral artery in the upper thigh and guided using visualization techniques into position near the uterus. Then a contrast material is injected, which allows the doctors to watch its progress as it travels to the uterus using real-time X-ray fluoroscopy. This allows the doctors to not only pinpoint the location of the fibroid tumors, but also the arteries that supply blood to them.
In the final stage of the procedure, the catheter is guided precisely into place and a solution of embolizing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) particles is injected into those arteries that supply the tumors. The particles build up in the targeted arteries and effectively block blood flow to the fibroid tumors, causing them to shrink and die.
The procedure itself is performed in a hospital by MTV IR specialists and usually requires an overnight stay. Recovery from the procedures can involve some moderate pain, and requires that you remain motionless during the 24-hour recovery period to allow the small puncture in your artery to close properly. Most patients (85-90%) report significant reductions of their reported symptoms within a very short time, often as quickly as the next menstrual cycle.
When determines whether you are a candidate for UFE?
There are many factors that determine which uterine fibroid treatment options in Dallas are right for you, the most important being whether you plan on becoming pregnant in the future. The full effects of UFE are not fully understood, and while it is theoretically possible to become pregnant after UFE, the odds of this happening are uncertain. There are few risks associated with the procedure itself, because being minimally invasive it avoids the need for general anesthesia and blood transfusions. The procedure offers many advantages over other procedures used to treat fibroids, such as hysterectomy, myomectomy, or treatment with GnRH-a (a hormone suppressant used to shrink fibroids that can cause bone thinning).
If you are currently dealing with symptoms that sound as if they could be caused by uterine fibroids, look into the information we’ve provided about our Women’s Health services and pelvic pain treatment options in Dallas on our website at http://www.mtvir.com/ or give us a call at 469-447-4008. The Common Cause of Male Infertility, Varicocele, Can Be Treated.MTV IR offers effective treatments for scrotal varicocele, a common cause of male infertility.
A varicocele refers to abnormal vein enlargement in the scrotum. Varicocele is basically the same as varicose veins, which occur when the valves inside the veins stop working properly and, as a result, blood flows the wrong way down the body instead of back to the heart. Varicoceles only develop in the scrotum, and they occur in about 15% of adult men and 20% of teenage boys.
How is male infertility diagnosed?
Varicoceles cause reduced sperm production and poor quality sperm, with the result that infertility can develop. MTVIR will examine you to see if a varicocele can be seen or felt. In addition Doppler ultrasound technology is often used to detect unseen varicoceles that are deeper in the testicle. Once you have a diagnosis, you and your doctor will choose a treatment modality.

The renowned interventional oncology specialists of MTVIR want you to know that benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as prostate enlargement, isn’t cancer.
However, it can share some symptoms with prostate cancer. As a result, if you’re having uncomfortable symptoms, a proper diagnosis is important. Symptoms such as needing to urinate often, especially at night, weak urine, dribbling or an inability to finish urinating are common in BPH. Some men have no symptoms at all, so regular screening is a good idea.
How is benign prostatic hyperplasia diagnosed?
MTVIR uses a test called PSA, which measures prostate-specific antigens in your blood, as a diagnostic tool. In addition, urine tests, blood tests and a digital rectal exam can help your doctor finalize the diagnosis. If it is still inconclusive, a biopsy, urinary flow tests and a 24-hour voiding diary also provide helpful information to your doctor.
How is BPH treated?
Treatment can include “watchful waiting”, drugs, or minimally invasive treatments. MTVIR offers BPH treatments that are less risky and painful than surgery and require less recovery time. For example, prostate artery embolization is a minimally invasive technique performed under light sedation. A microcatheter is used to deliver a substance that blocks blood flow to the prostate, causing the enlarged tissue to shrink and eventually be reabsorbed by the body.
